Abstract

Out of the imaginary and into the classics

A purely negative definition, such as Maffettone's, is not exact. Indeed all the great classics of liberalism have emphasized the need to find a proper relationship between 'public' and 'private'. Furthermore, liberal tolerance is socially committed by its very intolerance of intolerance itself. As far as the market is concerned, the liberal attaches great importance to the connexion existing between economic liberty and political liberty as the contemporary Chinese or Chilean questions are there to demonstrate.
